This week, President Joe Biden submitted three nominations for the U.S. Court of Appeals; public interest lawyer Rachel Bloomekatz for the 6th Circuit in Cincinnati, Magistrate Judge Doris Pryor for the 7th Circuit in Chicago, and Florence Pan for the District of Columbia Circuit. If approved, Pan would fill U.S. Supreme Court-designate Ketanji Brown Jackson’s former position.
President Biden committed to diversifying the federal bench early on in his presidency, and he has followed through. He has now chosen 98 nominees since 2021, three-quarters of which have been women. A majority of them have also been people of color.
